What Makes C & S So Special?
C & S Coffeehouse started out as Tom Tom Espresso. Originally, the location was home to the Tom Tom “Burger” drive-in. Tom Thomas and his family, owned and successfully ran it for over 30 years, before selling it. After the Thomas’, the business was sold a couple of times, until it eventually closed in 1999. Pictures from the original drive-in and of Tom Thomas continue to be displayed in our store at this location.
Vacant from 1999-2002, Ron & Roberta Knight purchased it, remodeled it, and opened it on December, 9, 2002 as the first Tom Tom Espresso. They sold the business to us in October of 2006 and for the past 13+ years, my family has been building this business.
In May of 2013, we built a mobile espresso trailer. Our first event was at the Cascade Gardens Mother’s Day Faire. We have since used the mobile at countless events, including the YakAttack, Vintiques, the Moxee Car Show, WV Car Shows, Lacrosse and Soccer Tournaments at Sozo, Dog Shows, and Rock & Mineral Shows, before finally moving it into the Yakima Valley SunDome. We have been the exclusive coffee vendor in the SunDome since 2016. You will find us at all the events there. We were even at the the 2019 Central Washington State Fair.
In June of 2015, we took over the Washington Ave location. In February 2016, we opened our first Bistro at W. Creekside Loop, expanding from coffee and pastries to a full deli menu. This was a huge task, handled primarily by my daughter, Synthea. (She is our chef and has handcrafted the menu to be what it is today.) In March of 2018, we were approached to occupy the Yakima Valley Museum’s Soda Fountain location. We accepted and it became our 4th location. During these years, there were also a few other location transitional “bumps” that we had to overcome, but we did and our current locations are all thriving.
In July of 2019, we signed a deal with Terrace Heights Development. We are now in the process of opening this location, our 5th (6th when there are events in the SunDome). This location will be our physically largest location. We will have a variety of seating available, Bar Stools, a Lounge area and a small conference room as well. This location will also be unique because we will have a full Commercial Kitchen. We have hired a pastry chef and will be baking treats for all of our locations, with a larger and fresher variety to serve you! With our commercial kitchen, our menu options are also endless, and although we are not going crazy yet, stay tuned for new and exciting lunch specials. This location will offer our full espresso and our full deli menus.
So why change the name? We thought long and hard about rebranding and changing our name and logo. It was not taken lightly. We are a family run business. Synthea was 14 when she started working for us, and as she grew, her presence in our family owned business has grown. Our entire family has helped us build this business. We inherited the name because of our first location and feel that it’s time for our business to represent our family, not the Thomas family. C & S Coffeehouse (Coffee & Sandwiches-or-Cassie & Synthea), does just that.
Our business is our passion. We take great pride in helping you, our customers, our city, and the kids in our valley. We’re still here working hard and putting in the time and effort to be what you need. With your support, we’ve gone from 1 location and 5 employees to 6 locations and over 20 employees. We thank you for your continued support, while in return, we help you get through your day.

In July of 2019, we officially transitioned from Tom Tom Espresso to C & S Coffeehouse — a name that better reflected our growing family business and the community we proudly serve.
Like many small businesses, the years that followed brought both growth and challenges. In January of 2020, we opened our 6th location in Terrace Heights, just before the unexpected challenges of COVID-19 changed the restaurant and coffee industry forever. Due to the locations being on city and county properties, we made the difficult decision to immediately close both our Sundome and Soda Fountain locations during the pandemic.
After spending nearly a year learning how to navigate business ownership in an entirely new environment, we also made the decision to close our Creekside location in February of 2021. While these changes were not easy, they allowed us to refocus and continue serving our community through changing times.
As our business evolved, so did our families. Cassie and Kim’s family grew with the adoption of two boys, and with that new chapter came a desire to simplify and focus more intentionally on family life. At the same time, Synthea and Anthony were also raising their young family with two children of their own. Together, these life changes helped guide the decision to gradually downsize operations over the following years.
In July of 2024, we sold our Washington location, followed by the sale of our Terrace Heights location in July of 2025. Today, C & S Coffeehouse proudly continues at our 40th Avenue location, our original location.
C & S Coffeehouse is operated daily by Synthea, who continues to keep our drink and food menus fresh, innovative, and always evolving with new ideas and products. One thing that has never changed is our passion for community. Since the very beginning, we have loved partnering with other local businesses, supporting one another, and helping our Yakima community grow together.
